Growing Beyond Oil

The most significant opportunity confronting the world is the chance to grow beyond oil – to relieve the unhealthy dependency we have developed on fossil fuels and replace a substantial part of our energy mix with renewable biofuels such as biodiesel and ethanol.

This year, the Canadian Renewable Fuels Summit will focus on how we move forward to achieve this goal.  Discussions will include; advancement of second generation biofuels, responding to the food versus fuel debates, biofuels as a cleaner, greener, more affordable source of energy that will strengthen economic prospects at home and in emerging economies alike.

In the past year alone, the price of oil has increased by approximately 100 per cent – fundamentally, biofuels are the only practical, available and affordable alternative to meet the world's growing energy demands, specifically on the roads.

Indeed, the real solution lies in the promise of a bio-economy, where value is increasingly drawn from renewable resources we grow and harvest, rather than non-renewable resources we extract and mine.

The prospect is a double winner, for both the economy and for the environment.

The environmental benefits of biofuels are both significant and growing.

Biofuels represent a source of optimism for the future. They are our best hope to grow beyond oil and, in the process help meet some of tomorrow's greatest challenges.

Come to the Nation’s Capital this December and be part of the discussion.
